The valence state and ionic concentration of iron in the Shandong sapphire were determined by Mssbauer spectrometric and electron paramagnetic resonance analyses. The characteristics of absorption spectrum arised from Fe 2+ and Fe 3+ have been investigated. It is indicated that the absorption peak at 477 nm can be produced only the Fe 3+ is highly concentrated, which would be an essential reason to cause the Shangong sapphire being colored as dark blue with black.

山东蓝色蓝宝石的着色是由Ti4+离子与Fe2+离子合理配比而成,一般控制在Ti4+/Fe2+=1的配比范围内。多余的Fe2+和其它Fe3+离子存在都不利于蓝色蓝宝石正常呈色。通过穆斯堡尔谱和电子顺磁共振谱分析,测定了山东蓝宝石中铁离子的不同价态和浓度。对Fe2+和Fe3+离子所引起的吸收光谱特征作了研究,查明只有Fe3+浓度很高时才产生477nm吸收峰,是致使山东蓝宝石表观上呈深蓝带黑色调的的重要原因。

The absorption spectrum of sapphire from Betsiaka has three ranges: 360~390 nm,430~452 nm,560~840 nm. It indicates that the coloration of sapphire is caused as a result of the d-d electron transition of Fe 3+ and charge transfer of Fe 2+ -Ti 4+ . Heating to 1 600~1 800℃ and constant for several hours, on the condition of oxidation or reduction, can enhance the color of Betsiaka sapphires.

贝齐卡蓝宝石的吸收光谱有3个吸收范围:360~390nm,430~452nm,560~840nm,表明蓝宝石的呈色是由Fe3+等过渡金属离子的d-d电子跃迁和Fe2+-Ti4+之间电荷转移跃迁等因素共同作用的结果。选择还原或氧化条件,加热至1600~1800℃恒温数小时,可使部分浅蓝色或深蓝色的蓝宝石变成中等蓝色调,从而达到改善蓝宝石质量的目的
