In this paper, we have described the derivation of the formula currently used in China for surface-wave magnitude determination at the Beijing Seismic Station. The following formula is used:Ms= log (A/T)max +σ(△).Taking the surface wave magnitude of the Pasadena Seismic station given by Gutenberg and Richter, as the standard magnitude, the calibrating function of the surface-wave magnitude σ(△) and formula for the Beijing Seismic Station has been derived by using the mean value of surface-wave magnitudes with the Pasadena standard from 6 well-known seismic stations in the world. The calibrating function σ(△) was determined empirically for distances A= 8°-130°as follows:σ(△) = (1. 66±0.09)log△°+ (3.50±0.14)In the epicentral distances △:=130°-180°, a modification is made for the absorption coefficient k, thus the formula of the calibrating function derived semi-empirically and semi-theoretically is expressed as follows:In order to improve the accuracy of the surface-wave magnitude determinations, the standard of the Beijing station is extended to be used in 12 basic seismic stations in China. The station correction of each seismic station has been calculated by using the data of 360 earthquakes, thus improving the consistency for determining the surface-wave magnitudes.

本文叙述了我国现行的北京地震台面波震级 Ms 公式的由来,所使用的公式为Ms=log(A/T)_(max)+σ(△)系以古登堡-里克特(Gutenberg-Richter)对帕萨迪纳(Pasadena)地震台测定的面波震级为标准,由国际上与该标准一致的六个著名地震台的面波平均震级制定出北京地震台测定面波震级的起算函数σ(△).当震中距离△=8°-130°得到公式σ(△)=(1.66±0.09)log△°+(3.50±0.14)对于△=130°-180°之间的公式,我们结合中国地震观测的实际情况将吸收系数项作了改进,求得半经验半理论公式为σ(△)=6.775+1/2[(2.147e~(-0.04465△(?))+1.325)(△°-90°)×10~(-2)logsin△°+1/3(log△°-1.954)]为了提高面波定震级的精确度,将北京地震台的面波震级标准推广到全国十二个基准台,利用360个地震的数据算出了各台的台基校正值,提高了测定面波震级的一致性.

In this paper, we investigate the attenuation of maximum amplitude of S-waves of near earthquakes with epieentral distance and the damping of coda waves of near earthquakes with time in the Beijing-Tianjin and Sichuan-Yunnan regions. These attenuation features indicate an apparent difference in crustal media between these two regions.
