Spatial localization of EPSP evoked by stimulation of the alfactory nerve on the soma, lateral and ventral dendrites of the crucian carp Mauthner cell was explored by means of multiple intracellular recording technique. The maximum amplitude of the first component of the olfactory EPSP was recorded at the regions near the soma. It declined progressively along the lateral and ventral dendrites. The second component presented the largest amplitude at the most distal segment of the ventral dendrite and became smaller and smaller while the recording electrode was moved gradually towards the soma and the lateral dendrite. It is suggested that the olfactory inputs concentrate and impinge on the sites near the soma and on the most distal ventral dendrite at least more than 600 μm from the soma respectively.

The results showed that pre EPSP with maximal amplitude was recorded at the soma, from where its amplitude decayed progressively along the lateral dendrite. The style of decay was very comparable to that of antidromic action potential. It is suggested that: ① The synapses mediating pre EPSP are located densely at the soma; ② As the antidromic action potential, the pre EPSP propagates along the lateral dendrite simply in the manner of electrotonic spread. It means that no synapses mediating pre EPSP impinge on the lateral dendrite.

In the present experiments, the characteristics of the electrical responses to stimulation of the cerebellum in crucian carp Mauthner cell were explored with microeletrode intracellular recording technique. A composite excitatory postsynaptic potential (cerebellum-evoked EPSP) could be induced from the soma, the ventral dendrite and the proximal end of the lateral dendrite in crucian carp Mauthner cell (M-cell) on either side by stimulation of the ventrolateral region of the cerebellum. The cerebellum-evoked EPSP presented characteristics of relatively short latency (0.63+0.09 ms), longer duration (5.49±1.13ms), graded amplitude and dependence on stimulation frequency. Stimulation of the cerebellum with higher intensity always activated the M-cell orthodromically. Multiple intracellular recordings showed that the cerebellum-evoked EPSP originated in the distal end of the ventral dendrite. The results suggest that the cerebellum-M-cell pathway is probably composed of a group of neuron chains with different numbers of synaptic relays projecting to the distal end of the ventral dendrite in order of length of the chains.

实验采用微电极胞内记录技术探查鲫鱼Mauthner细胞(M-细胞)对小脑刺激的电反应特征。电刺激鲫鱼小脑腹外侧部,可在双侧M-细胞胞体、腹侧树突和外侧树突近端记录到一种复合性兴奋性突触后电位(小脑诱发性EPSP)。小脑诱发性EPSP潜伏期较短(0.63±0.09 ms),持续时间较长(5.49±1.13 ms),幅度分级和刺激频率依从等特征。以较高强度刺激小脑常引起M-细胞顺向激活。多点胞内连续穿刺实验显示小脑诱发性EPSP起源于腹侧树突远端。实验结果提示,小脑-M-细胞通路可能包含一组长短不等的神经元链,它们根据链的短或长,由近及远依次投射在腹侧树突远端。
