Driven by the industrialization and modernization efforts in the countryside since the 1990s, a female managers' group is rising into prominence in China's rural areas. This group of women stand apart from their country sisters with their highest degree of participation in public affairs and the greatest challenge they give to the pitting of the public sector against the private sector. Through a case study of 50 female cadres, entrepreneurs and proprietors and their experience rising from the bottom of the rural social ladder to the higher, rural managers' rung, this essay analyses country women's path to public management and their opportunities in this regard. From a unique angle, the essay gives an insight into the changes in rural society and how these changes affect rural women in their participation in the public sector.

This essay comprehensively reviews the theoretical finds made by western countries in the past decade in the research on the style of leadership of the two sexes, and summarizes the differences between the two sexes in the style of leadership, the statistical research on such differences in countries with different backgrounds, and the conclusions from the experiential research on such style of leadership-thus providing theoretical reference for the style of leadership in organizations.
