This paper expouds the optical principle and the calculating method of the off-plane displacement of shadow moire method. On thebasis of many of experiments a shadow moire instrument is invented. It can be used for measurement of three dimensional forms and off-plane displacement and provides an efficient way in the profile measurement of discontinuity, the model tests of geomechanics and theexamination of samples. Lastly, the measurement way and instrument behaviors are introduced by an example.

Recent research results developed with Electronic. Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI)and Video Holographic Interferometry were briefly reported in this paper. The research involves the measurements of the sum of principal stresses in a perspex model, gas temperature fields in 2D and axisymmetric cases, 3D surface shape and 3D displacement field. Fringe patterns were processed and analysed by an interactive digital image processing system. Various optical arrangements and opcration procedures were described....
