This paper describes a study on the career preference and enterprise appraisal made by Chinese employees in Sino Japan Joint ventures. 6,478 respondents from 37 enterprises filled in a questionnaire, which was designed to assess the specific job satisfaction, career preference and enterprise appraisal. Table 1 shows the satisfaction with seven specific job facets. It seems that both managers and workers have low satisfaction scores with “Present Salary”,“Raise in Payment”, and “Welfare and Health care” ( Less than 2.0 ), and some moderate satisfaction scores with “Stability of Job” and “Manner of Superior”.The data analysis of career preferences indicates that Chinese employees in Sino Japan Joint ventures prefer Chinese enterprises most, then US or European, next Hongkong or Taiwan, and last Japanese enterprises. Particularly, the incentive system in Japanese dominated enterprises was negatively rated as bad salary payment, few holidays, poor welfare and health plan, less opportunity for technical training and promotion, and poor Labor Capital relationship. On the other side, the effectiveness of management and administration in Sino Japan joint ventures was impartially appreciated by their Chinese employees (Table 2) Some discussions tend to suggest that the low preference to Japanese dominated enterprise by their Chinese employees could be attributed mainly to their low job satisfaction.
