The model of elastic hanging beam structure of hard roof is made on the basis of rock pressure observations. It exposes the interaction of mechanical system between the support and the surrounding rock. It illustrates that the major method for controlling hard roof is to increase the fissured area of the rockmass and to decrease its strength.
