    Surfaces made of four types of steel, i. e. 20, 20 Cr, T12 and W18Cr4V (18-4-1), under different conditions of heat treatment, were subjected to the irradiation by a 2kW CO2 laser, the treatment including surface hardening, surface alloying and surface glazing.
