The translation theory treating the translators as its main body is the first important principle that Pound followed to translate Chinese classical poetry, thus the reoccurrence of the particular intention and emotion along with the reconstruction of the artistic conceptions turned out to be the main characteristics that Pound owned to translate the Chinese poems into English.
In order to gain a better understanding and appreciation of musicality and visual beauty exhibited in the poetic form, the present thesis,based upon the achievements that the predecessors have made and the fact that the collision between heterogeneous cultures will activate the consciousness of criticism and the comparative sensibility of the world literature, makes a tentative research into the convergence between the English poetry and the classical Chinese poetry in terms of artistic form which is combined by sound and visual aspects.
The literary movement "Imagism" was also started and advocated by Pound who, during his life time, translated and published an enormous variety of Chinese classical poems, bringing the Chinese traditional poetry into the western modern culture and thus stimulating the development of American new poems.
This paper, starting from discussion of the general influence of Oriental culture upon Western culture, reveals the impact of Chinese classic poetry on Imagist poetry by illustrating the connections between Imagist poets and Chinese classic poetry and by pointing out the similarities between Imagist poetry and Chinese classic poetry.
