We studied volcanic mechanism at West Mountain mainly from the volcanic rock sequence, eruptive cycles, volcanic rock facies and the stru ctures of volcano, etc.

Moreover, we suggest that the Jinning orogeny in the Yangtze block is a good example of such diachronous orogenies.But in the metamorphosed sequences, an uncomformity which can be observed in geological section may generally represent a combinative expression of many orogenies.Oro'genic cycles in these three major fault blocks have been classified as follows:Sanggan cycle (>2500-2600 m.y.)Wutai cycle (>2000 m.y.)Zhongyue cycle (>1700 m.y.)Yinshan cycle (>1200-1300 m.y.)Jinning cycle (>1050-900 m.y.)An attempt to correlate them with other orogenies that occurred in the other continents of the world is made in this paper.

Therefore, the stress of discussion was laid on the continental crust movement; new grounds of argument abput depression-uplift wave theory were put forward; the law of depression-uplift movement of distributing in space and developing in time were demonstrated; the cycle characteristics of depression-uplift as well as the process of result of the movement were discussed. At the end of the paper, in view of depression-uplift movement and the horizontal resultant of force generated from the movement was taken as the point of departure, the analysis and interpretation of ten important geological phenomena happened in continent earth's crust were made.
