In writing of western photographic history,the historic function of women photographer had been ignored for long time. their historic contributions had not been evaluated fairly. Along with the rising of the thoughts of feminism at late 1960s, many outstanding women photographer got the opportunities of reappraisal for their historic contributions.New generation of women photographer have been correcting this unfairness by their art works.This paper tries to explore the experimentation of contemporary western women photographers from three aspects. At the part of "no longer beautiful body", we deal with their depiction of body to investigate the meaning of their activity. At the part of "toward the unknown self", we explore the possibilities of photographic self-portraiture of women photographers with which they expand their cultural and social criticism . At the part of "anatomise the construction of male culture as mainstream", we focus on their efforts for disconstructing the authoritative base of male culture.Through our discussing of above three aspects, we could find that the recognition which photography had gained in western is close to their practices. The practices of western women photographer open out the great possibility of photography as a medium that participating in social reform.

长期以来 ,在西方的摄影史写作忽视了女性摄影家的历史作用 ,对她们的历史贡献没有作出公正的评价。随着2 0世纪 6 0年代女性主义思潮的兴起 ,历史上的许多杰出女性摄影家才有机会得到重新评价 ,而新一代的女性摄影家则以自己的创作使得这种不公平得到了进一步的纠正。这里试图从三个方面来把握当代西方女性摄影家的探索实验。在“不再只是美的身体”这一部分中 ,通过她们对女性身体的表现 ,提示她们的这方面的创作的全新意义。她们的表现在表达了女性的经验与感情的同时 ,也促使人们重新认识身体所包含的意义。在“走向未知的自我”这一部分 ,探讨了她们运用自拍摄影这个样式进行的文化与社会批评 ,并使自拍摄影发展成一个成熟的表现样式的重要意义。在“解剖男性主流文化的构造”这一部分 ,着重提示她们以各种方式解构男性主流文化的权威基础的努力。通过这三个方面的描述与探讨 ,我们可以看到 ,摄影目前在西方所受到的重视与她们的努力实践是分不开的。而她们的实践也同时揭示了摄影参与社会变革的巨大的可能性。
