A COD and NH 3-N removal up to 99% and 100% had been obtained when the inlet concentration of COD and NH 3-N were in range of 336 to 808 mg/L and 15.87 to 35.13 mg/L respectively. Three categories of membrane fouling processes including contaminant backup on fiber structure, gel deposition and scale formation on membrane surface are described in detail and it is believed that the membrane would be better cleaned in the sequence of water rinsing, soaking in 0.033% solution of sodium hypochlorite for 12 hours, water rinsing and soaking in 0.33% sulfuric acid and finally water rinsing again. The flux restoration of membrane of each cleaning step was observed, that is 11% for water rinsing only, 23% for water rinsing after hypochlirite soaking and 31% for water rinsing after sulfuric acid soaking. Three operating patterns of BMR are proposed on the above mentioned finds.
