There is about 35,000 km~2 glacier in Tibet,which is the largest area of modern glacier distribution in China,as well as modern glacier lake distribution.
The main results and detailed contents were revealed as following:(1) Based on the Glacier Inventory Database of Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Research Institute, this paper analyzed the glacier distribution characteristics in details, by the parameters of glacier system's area ,volume, number, [H_ (ma)|—] , [H_ (me)|—] , [H_ (mi)|—] , and so on.
Mass loss due to evaporation in summer does not seem to be important in the annual mass balance but it seems to be an important factor in determining the glacier distribution in this area.
The source Region of Tarim River,is one of the areas in China where the glaciers are concentrated,and the glacier area totaled as 17 745.51km~(2),accounting for 30% of the total glacier area in China.
The fundamental idea is that relief configuration and thus the type of glaciation depend on the location of the snowline within a certain landscape. Together with a method of snowline detemination the author has developed a calculation scheme with which the characterizing gradient relationships of subrecent and present glaciers can be fixed.
