There is aboundant underground brine along the Shandong coastal flat-lands on the Bohai Sea. The concentrations of major elements in brine samples collected from six saltworks were analysed. The results showed that the concentrations of all major elements were three to four times as seawater. Combined with geological evidence, it is deduced that the brine originated from seawater; yet there was a qualitative difference between them now.
