In the normal form theory of relational database, Codd third normal form (3NF) and Boyoe-Codd normal form(BCNF)may still contain some simple removable superfluous attributes. The main purpose of this Paper is to prove that an improved third normal form (I3NF) can be obtained after removing the superfluous attributes from the third normal form. It has also been proved that the method proposed is superior to the decomposition method of normalization without affecting its covering and re-constructibility. As an extension of this method, an improved BCNF can be obtained similarly.
