The Quaternary continental glacial sheet belongs to a united oceanic continental glacier. Formed in the middle of Early Pleistocene, its center is located at the cental part of Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region at N 32° -35° and E 81°-89°. The ice flow near the center of the Sheet is radial but in all other area it is mainly from west to east.
it is concluded that the development of the Ordovician meter-scale cyclic-sequence in Tazhong area is controlled by the high-frequency changes of sea-level, and the high-frequency changes of sea-level is controlled by the change of global climate and the melt and flow of the continental glacier, which controlled by the periodic changes of Milankovitch cycles.
Begining from 12ka BP,the global climate became warm,resulting in gradual disappear ance of continental glaciers retreat of mountain glaciers,and rise of sea level.
Cold event deposits were developed in the Nantuo Formation of the Lower Sinian and should be continental glacial deposits in a low latitude and low altitude area.
The discovery of dropstones in the Poindo Group that indicate the existence of glaciation and ice-rafting deposition proves that the Carboniferous-Permian strata of Gondwana affinity on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau formed in a glaciomarine environment affected by the Gondwana glaciers.
The reports of the glacial potholes have induced a controversy in China on the origin of potholes: some geologists favor the glacial origin, explaining that potholes were formed under glacier ice by the falling melting water;
During the early Pleistocene, the discoglossid genus Latonia and the entire family Palaeobatrachidae became extinct, undoubtedly because of continental glaciation.
mixties, that can be formed by either landglacier and ice-sea or debric flow and turbidity,are the rockes which are much simillar each other in appearance and which are made of the different grain size (clay-pebbles) 、 as muddy conglomerite rock, conglomerite mud rock and sandpebble mud rock and so on, It is more difficult and very important to distinguish them for making study of sedimentary environment and deposit ores,therefore,authers discuss the distinction of these sediments (sedimentary rocks) .
Two thick polycomponent conglomerate formations of Lower Sinian (ie, the chang an Formation and the Nantuo Formation) are distributed in Northern Guangxi. They are composed of gravel-bearing mudstone and gravel-bearing sandstone intercalatated with sandstone and mudstone, and were considered genetically related to glacier and known as "tillite" and glacier-marine deposit" etc. in the past. In recent years, however, disagreements have arisen on their origin. The author conducted field and laboratory studies ...
Preliminary study indicates that various glacial remnants of the Quarternary continental glacial sheet on the Qinghai-Xizang (Tibet) Plateau are distributed very widely and developed continuously. The remnants that have been discovered and confirmed are as follows: glacial erosion landform: ice-scoured plains, icescoured hills, U-shaped valleys, ice-scoured basins, ice-scoured depressions, glacial staircases, glacial chutes, glacial slopes and bedrock drumlins; glacial drift remnants: moraines, block-morain...
