The results indicate that when current density is low the passivation of Al electrodeis controlled by the diffusion of Al(OH)_4~- ions from the surface into the solution and ananodic passivation film is formed as a result of the precipitation of Al(OH)_3 or Al_2O_3from the super-saturated Al(OH)_4~- solution near the electrode surface. At highercurrent densities, the formation of the anodic passivation film is caused by both electro-chemical reaction and the diffussion-controlled precipitation.

Six sets of flowing water corrosion loop have been developed which havebeer used extensively for screening tests of reactor structure material, particularlyaluminum and its alloys. This paper reports the structure of the typical loopsand the experience accumulated.
