变焦距光学系统已经在各种光学仪器上获得了广泛的应用 ,一些新的设计思想也层出不穷。本文介绍的变焦距系统设计的快速求解方法可以贯穿到变焦距镜头设计的全过程 ,还可以应用到光学系统的初始求解、设计过程中的抽样计算、设计数据的校对和审核、结构设计中驱动凸轮曲线的求解、外观设计等。本文列举的计算实例说明 ,这种快速求解对完成一项设计具有很多方便。

由于变焦系统的凸轮曲线对变焦过程中像面的稳定、操作的灵活性都有重要影响,因此变焦曲线的优化设计有着重要的意义。首次采用遗传算法对机械补偿类型的变焦曲线进行了优化设计,并给出了实例。这样得到的曲线比传统的让变倍组作线性移动得到的曲线要明显平滑,证明了遗传算法用于变焦曲线优化设计的可行性和有效性。
