We presume the optical center of the camera is changeless during its movements, then the image center can be estimated beforehand, and we suppose the camera change its focal length while rotating....

The paper describes a simple and practical self-calibration method of estimating the intrinsic parameters of digital cameras for image-based rendering system. This method is based on tracking the image features through a sequence of images while the camera undergoes pure rotation, no a special calibration object required. Camera positioning is a classical problem. The basis of camera positioning is to acquire the real time robot spatiak knowledge, a set of parameters to represent a spatial position, from a photograph or a series of image frames taken by the camera. The crcuial problem is that in wild environment, especially mountain area, there may be no reference object set in advance. Fortunately, in most cases, the image contour line, which segments the sky background and mountain, can be easily fetched from those photographs....

The crcuial problem is that in wild environment, especially mountain area, there may be no reference object set in advance. Fortunately, in most cases, the image contour line, which segments the sky background and mountain, can be easily fetched from those photographs. Also the DEM data of the same area can be obtained by other approaches. This paper gives a method of camera positioning by matching the image contour line of the hills and the contour line constructed from the known DEM data. This method can position the camera without any reference object by means of the known geographical information. It has been proved that the method can be the basis of computer aided camera parameter recovery tool.
