Stratigraphics and structures of Gubei buried hill,located in the east pa- rt of Jiyang depression,are very complicated.The well Gubei 13 was compl- eted early in 1984.Through stratigraphic correlation,drilling cutting analysis, thin section study and diplog interpretation data,it was found that 3 times of stratigraphic repetition from Lower Majiagou groupe,Ordovician to Feng- shan groupe,and Cambrian occured in the well.Having made analysis and studies over and over again,the existence of a reversed fault and a reversed sold under the fault is demonstrated.It is the first reversed fault confirmed in the past 20 years' of petroleum exploration history in Jiyang depression. The reversed fault might have been caused by structural movement during In- dosinion movement period.The discovery of the reversed fault gives a basis for a further analysis of the geotectonic movements undergone in the Jiyang depression and the eastern part of North China region and is significant in the further exploration of oil and gas reservoirs governed by the reversed fault.

However, it is more difficult to be accomplished when formation intervals exhibit a poor log response and RFT testing has been largely eliminated because of poor hole conditions or expensive cost. Fingerprints of residual hydrocarbons from core or cutting extracts can provide an independent means of identifying reservoir fluid type. Fingerprints of oil saturated intervals are typical of topped (C 15+ ) whole oils, whereas fingerprints of hydrocarbons extracts from the gas dominated rock materials show an abbreviated hydrocarbon distribution and the amounts of higher carbon number hydrocarbons follow the oil and gas retrograde condensate rule. Fingerprints of extracts from water productive intervals usually show a further abbreviated signature, although sometimes exist higher molecular weight hydrocarbons whose distribution is different from that of whole oils. It can also be accomplished to assess reservoir commercial value and to predict the oil density in the drilling process by the amounts and composition of core or cutting extracts. This technique has been applied to Hainan Well 8 and shows a better application effect. Its additional application includes the reevaluation of older wells that lack modern wirelog measurements, but have core or cutting material available.
