The three dimensional network structure of kerogen was broken into intermediate products, which could be oxidized further to water-soluble and/or water-insoluble carboxylic acids, mainly mono-acids and di-acids. Active oxygen species produced at the anode rather than molecular oxygen was considered to be the actual oxidant.

The change of the distribution of structural unit Q. types was studied by use of Raman spectroscopy to whose spectrum Gaussian curves was fitted,as Al2O3 content increases by 3, 6 and 9 mol% in the glass with CaO/SiO2=1/2. It was found that the aboundence of chain --unit, Q2, decreases, that of sheet unit Q3 increases, and that of 3 --dimension network Q4 unit remains almost the same. The inhibiting effect of Al2O3 on phase separation and crystallization of the glass was explained according to the result.
