The adoption of critical loading position for concrete pavements depends upon the stress regime induced, as well as the fatigue damage incurred by the applied loads. This paper presents an analysis of the critical loading position, by comparing the maximum stresses and fatigue damage along the longintudinal and transverse edge of concrete slabs. Suggestions on selecting critical loading position are offered for developing concrete pavement design procedure with various design criteria.
