The Lower Cambrian Xinji Formation is exposed around the Fangcheng and Yexian Counties of Henan Province geologically in the southern part of the North China platform, yielding the trilobite Hsuaspis associated with abundant small shelly fossils, some of which have been studied by He and Pei(1984).Results of a restudy on the Conodontomorpha Henaniodus of the small shelly fauna from the Xinji Formation in this area by the present author, show that this genus may be the remains of the fossil apparatus of an uncertain animal of the Early Cambrian.Qian and Jiang(1980) who first established the Conodontomorpha considered them as inner skeletons, and discussed the resemblances and differences between this group and the conodonts. He and Pei(1984) grouped Henaniodus in Conodon- tomorpha and pointed out that Conodontomorpha differ from scolecodont in having a phosphatic shell, and from conodonts in the absence of the laminated wall. Yang and He(1984), and Jiang(1984) published a check list of the genera of Conodontomorpha.In this paper, the orientation and structure of Henaniodus are discussed, and the microstructures of the central ridge are studied and illustrated. Under enlargement, the central ridge appears to be a continuous or discontinuous linear ridge; scanning electron photomicrographs show that it is composed of disconnected and linearly arranged nodules 18 μm in length, and 9 μm in width, about 17 μm apart from each other. The tops of the nodules are open, and the openings are irregular in outline with the wall being compact and equal in thickness. It can be inferred, therefore, that the opening probably was the metabolic passage or the remaining trace of the nervous system of an uncertain animal.Description of Henaniodus elementsConodontomorpha Qian et Jiang, 1980Genus Henaniodus He et Pei, 1984Henaniodus magicus He et Pei, 1984(Pl. Here reported are 13 species of Monoplacophora, 2 species of Gastropoda and 1 species of unknown affinity from the Lower Cambrian Xinji Formation in Ye Xian,Henan,including 2 new genera and 6 mew species,namely, Repenoconus xinjiensis gen. et sp. nov., Scenella pycna sp. nov., Securiconus vulgaris sp. nov., Obtusoconus grossicostus sp. nov.,Igorellina proboscis sp. nov. ancl Galeiscus theloides gen. et sp. nov.. These faunas are dominated by Stenotheca drepanoida (He et Pei) and Auriculaspira adunca He et Pei....

Many of their representatives are similar to those from the Lower Cambrian Yutaishan Formation of Anhui; some of them are also relatively close to those from the Lower Cambrian and early Middle Cambrian of South Australia. Their representatives are mostly distributed on the southern margin of North China; they also occur in the Lower Cambrian Formation of Australia, France and some other parts of the world. This indicates that the Xinji Formation might belong to the middle Lower Cambrian.

本文描述和讨论了河南叶县杨寺在下寒武统辛集组单板类13种,腹足类2种,未定类1种。其中包括2新属6新种:Repenoconusxinjiensisgen,etsp.nov,Scenellapycnasp.nov,Securiconusvulgarissp.nov,Obtusoconusgrossicostussp.nov.Igorellinaproboscissp.nov,Galeiscustheloidesgen.etsp.nov.辛集组单板类、腹足类动物群与梅树村期的动物群截然不同,而与安徽雨台山组的动物群面貌相同,其时代为早寒武世中期。辛集组单板类、腹足类在国内主要分布于华北地台南缘及西南侧一带,在国外与澳大利亚下寒武统中上部的单板类、腹足类最为密切。Stenothecadrepanoida-Auriculaspiraadunca组合可以作为下寒武统中部洲际地层对比的标志.
