Dietary fiber contents in 34 common foods perchased in Beijing markets have been determined with detergent method, including neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. On dry basis, the dietary fiber contents of vegetables varied with kinds of food: the dietary fiber contents were higher in tender stems, leaves, stalks and flowers; lower in starchy tubers and roots;
5 kinds of foods were fed to rats as part of 5 diets each contanning 2.5% neutral detergent fiber(NDF)and the effect on increasing dry stool weight (DSW)and the digestibility of dietary fiber(DF)components of the foods were studied.
The 5 foods, apple, bran, cabbage, carrot and pear, were fed to rats as part of 5 diets each containing 2.5% neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and the effect on increasing dry stool weight (DSW) and the digestibility of dietary fiber (DF) components of the foods were studied.
The present paper has studied the qualitative producedure of the true cellulose and ligninin bast fibres. We removed the non-cell wall components and heli-cellulose in our samples withacid-detergent solution, with 72% H_2SO_4, quantifyed glucose in the hydrolyzed solution withanthrone reagent by calorimetric method, calculated the true cellulose, and determined thelignin from components insoluble in 72% H_2SO_4. Our method was simple and rapid in opera-tion.
There was a significant regression equation between rumen contents ADF (acid detergent fiber) and fecal ADF concentrations, as well as ADL (acid detergent lignin) concentrations.
A recombinant inbred line maize population was used to map quantitative trait loci (QTL) for neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and acid detergent lignin (ADL) of leaf-sheath and stalk tissues.
Samples were harvested from plots at two locations in 1998 and one in 1999 and assayed for neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF) and acid detergent lignin (ADL).
The methods used were the gravimetric (neutral and acid detergent fibre) method, the enzymatic-gravimetric method for (insoluble and soluble fibre and the spectrophotometric method for pectic substances.
As expected, acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) values increased with increasing levels of bran and the changes in both cultivars were similar.

The results showed that DSW increased with increased NDF intake, cabbage being the most effective. The mean DSW of the test food groups was 2.27 times compared with non-fiberous controls. The SDW was correlated with intake of NDF and cellu...
