An innovative method for the determination of iodide by vapour molecular absorption spectrometry in this paper. Iodide was first oxidized to Ⅰ_2 by concentrated sulphuric acid and then Was introduced into a special absorption cell on the atomic absorption spectrometer. The released Ⅰ_2 was determined by measuring the absorbance of Ⅰ_2 at the emission line of 518 nm of magnesium hollow cathodic lamp. The detection limit was 0. 89 ppm.
