This paper outlines the research results obtained by Japanese scholars of predicting earthquakes by catfish for many years. And at the seme time, describes the observation of vertical component of underground electromagnetic waves and the thoretical research on electromagneticwaves of ultralow frequency appearing before earthquakes; and the method of vertical componentof EM waves developed in Japan.

To improve the monitoring competency of the local seismological team, some monitoring instruments are needed, which have the features of simple Operation, easy installment, good quality, stable working and needn't the manual administration in normal time, while can record the valuable earthquake precursor information. Recently, we have developed the ultra -low-frequency electromagnetic wave monitor of digital recording. It can collect data automatically and the data can be stored in the memory of the instrument...

To improve the monitoring competency of the local seismological team, some monitoring instruments are needed, which have the features of simple Operation, easy installment, good quality, stable working and needn't the manual administration in normal time, while can record the valuable earthquake precursor information. Recently, we have developed the ultra -low-frequency electromagnetic wave monitor of digital recording. It can collect data automatically and the data can be stored in the memory of the instrument up to a month. In normal time, there is no need of administration , and the data can be attained at any time by three ways, manual consulting, linking to the computer or long - distance telecontrol. It's suited to the use of the local seismological monitoring spots. The scientific base and the meanings of the development of the instrument, the function and the working fundamental theory are introduced in this paper, and the technique way and method by which the instrument achieved automation and digitalization are also esplained.

为了提高地方地震队伍的监测能力,需要有一些操作简单、容易安装、性能好、工作稳定、不须人工经常管理而又能记录到有价值的地震前兆信息的监测仪器。最近研制出的数字记录的超低频电磁波监测仪可自动采集数据,数据可以在仪器内存贮长达一个月,平时不须管理,随时可以通过手工查阅、连接电脑或远程遥控等3种方式获取数据,适合地方地震监测点使用。介绍了仪器研制的科学依据、研制意义和仪器的工作原理,详细论述了仪器实现自动化、数字化所采用的技术途径和方法。
