North Tianshan seismic zone is an intro-continental one where several st- rong shocks(Ms=8)occurred.The relationship between the characteristic of strong shock activity and geological structure is discussed.The zone is divid- ed into three sub-seismic zones and an analysis and comparison have been made for their seismicity and relativity.It is shown that strong shock activ- ities of Kebin-Nilk sub-seismic zone and Southern margin region of Zhungle Basin are related to that of Ugia-Hashi and Alta-Begal regions...

In this paper,some issues about σ1(△) and σ300, calibration functons of surface-wave magnitudes of earthquakes in China are discussed. After being tested,more than 5000 groups of data of the shallow earthquakes in china and the Countries nearby recorded by the Chinese SK Seismometer Network were adopted. And a comparison of MPEK (surface-wave magnitude of the Chinese network) , M1 (that of σ1(△) system)and M3 (that of σ-300 (△)system)with that of MOS,ISC and NEIS is carried out respectively. In this paper,some issues about σ1(△) and σ300, calibration functons of surface-wave magnitudes of earthquakes in China are discussed. After being tested,more than 5000 groups of data of the shallow earthquakes in china and the Countries nearby recorded by the Chinese SK Seismometer Network were adopted. As a result,it is fouhd that on average, MPEK is 0. 19 larger, Mi 0. 14 and M3 0. 04. Especially to the earthquakes west of 110E°,the surface-wave magnitude are 0. 3 larger,0. 25 and 0. 16. Therefore ,it is suggested to use σ300 (△)and to pursue a further study of the attenuation coefficient of surface waves in the intra continental earthquakes in China.
