The dominating aspect of ideology in American foreign policy making is democratic capitalism, which became anti\|communist doctrines after the world wars. Evidence of this can be found in Truman doctrine, Mr. X and NSC-68, which are all important references for studying the cause of the cold war. On the other hand, due to complicated political procedures at home, heads of American governments tend to resort to political propaganda to overcome obstacles in order to get their policies legalized. Obviously, ideology can function as a useful means for this end. In this sense the cause of the cold war can be considered as a most classical case for studying the role ideology plays in American foreign affairs.

By combing through the coherent logistic relations between these “two clashes” and combining relevant views of Huntington’s political theory, the article diagnoses factual contradictions and theoretical paradox in “core culture”, “American creed”, “immigration problem” and “multiculturalism” of American “clash of cultures”, and refutes Huntington’s hint of enemies from abroad in solving the “crisis of American national identity”. The article concludes that American “clash of cultures” is the manifestation of American nationalism based on racialism with its aggressive global hegemonism in the disguise of compromise in nature.

Benefited from and benefiting the notion and the state of America, it is deeply rooted in American nationalism. Starting its project and taking its goal as resisting the racist traditional American literary criticism, Asian American literary criticism, on the surface, seems to share nothing with the former....

Traditional American literary criticism, taking shape through its efforts to oppose European literary values, identifies literary studies as a process of defining American ideal and creating American tradition. Benefited from and benefiting the notion and the state of America, it is deeply rooted in American nationalism. Starting its project and taking its goal as resisting the racist traditional American literary criticism, Asian American literary criticism, on the surface, seems to share nothing with the former. However, regarding Asian American identity as subordinate to American identity, the project of defining Asian American identity as a commitment to re-defining American identity, Asian American literary criticism fails to accept a considerable number of writings by writers of Asian descent as Asian American that fail to explore the subject of America. Asian American literary criticism is ideologically nationalist and, dominated whether by cultural nationalism or by globalism, is a continuation, in nature, of traditional American literary criticism. What contributes to this includes the domination of Asian American literary criticism by American-born Asians, the extensive discourse of American literary criticism, the commitment of scholarship to state power, and the embracing of scholarship for scholarship’s sake.
