Studies of the TNT equivalence of silver azide charges
      
The pressure-radius profile was compared with that from a unit charge of TNT to determine the TNT equivalence of silver azide as a function of peak pressure and of distance from the centre of a silver azide charge.
      
A new method of analysis was developed so that the charge mass and the TNT equivalence of an explosion could be derived from such a single radius-time measurement.
      
The TNT equivalence factor for silver azide was shown to vary from 0.3 to 1.4, depending on the distance from the centre of the explosion.
      
Procedures are described by which the TNT equivalence factor can be calculated at any specified distance from a silver azide charge of known mass, or from a measurement of the shock radius and time, even when the charge mass is not known.

The present paper is aimed to introduce a new parameter derived by the authors in defining and evaluating the over-pressure effects,that is,ΔP~~0.742__mi~~0.258__+,and its application in the directly ignited FAE.As is known,the destructive effects of the explosive power on the targeted structures in most cases are highly dynamic(other choices are impulse and quasi-static) in nature.However,the currently available parameters for characterizing and evaluating such effects in the dynamic zone seem to be lacking...

The present paper is aimed to introduce a new parameter derived by the authors in defining and evaluating the over-pressure effects,that is,ΔP~~0.742__mi~~0.258__+,and its application in the directly ignited FAE.As is known,the destructive effects of the explosive power on the targeted structures in most cases are highly dynamic(other choices are impulse and quasi-static) in nature.However,the currently available parameters for characterizing and evaluating such effects in the dynamic zone seem to be lacking in solid theoretical grounds~.Thus,it comes to the need for the paper to derive the new parameter on the basis of numerical simulation of the dynamic response of the single-freedom-degree-system to the explosions for a more appropriate expression of the response.The new parameter,ΔP~~0.742__mi~~0.258__+,has been derived by means of combining the peak over-pressure and the impulse.At the same time,a method for calculating the TNT equivalence of single-event FAE has been provided.Calculations have also been made for some single-event FAE with the method based on the peak over-pressure itself and the method based on the new parameter accordingly,with necessary comparisons being mentioned.The results of our trial use prove that the TNT equivalence based on the over-pressure only is less than that based on the new parameter.Therefore,it is recommended to use the new parameter herein introduced for calculating and evaluating the TNT equivalence for its advantageous and satisfactory transducers and techniques in measuring the pick explosion over-pressure and the impulse.
