Based on the achievements of tests and statistics, the design principle of eccentric braced steelframes is determined by using reliability theory in this paper. The limit ratios of internal forces of eccen-tric braces and frame columns to their corresponding design load-bearing capacities under the actionswhich cause links to arrive at their design load-bearing capacities are proposed with definite probabili-ty meanings.

A simplified model is first established for the analysis of friction-braced steel frames. And then, a practical method is proposed for the optimal aseismic design of friction-braced steel frames in high-rise buildings. The problem on calculating the effective length for a column in a braced steel frame it discussed in this paper.An analytical modcl.based on the analysis of basic instability configurations of frameworks,for calculating the effective length of an arbitrary braced frame column is proposed and formulated.For the convenience of practical application,a simplified approach to the estimation of the effective length values of columns employed in rigid-joint steel frames is also presented.
