Twelve field cases with pulmonary hypertension syndrome in broilers due to hypoxia and twelve healthy birds from the same flock as control were randomly selected for histomorphological evaluation of pulmonary arterioles.The histopathological alterations of pulmonary arterioles in broilers with PHS and in controls were measured and analyzed.The results indicated that the ratio of vessel wall area to total vessel area(WA/TA)and ratio of mean medial thickness in pulmonary arteries(mMTPA)to diameter of vessel were more significantly increased(P<0 01)in sick birds than in healthy birds and that the percentage of pulmonary vascular muscularity were also significantly increased(P<0 01)by measuring the percentage of thick walled peripheral lung vessels at diameter<200 μm and <60 μm.Histopathological observation showed the intimal cellular proliferation and medial hypertrophy.Therefore,it might be concluded that the vascular remodeling characterized by the muscularization of non muscular arterioles and the proliferation and hypertrophy of the muscular vessels had been occurred in the field cases with pulmonary hypertension syndrome induced by hypoxia.

To study the pathogenesis of pulmonary hypertension syndrome(PHS)in broilers,240 Arbor Acres commercial broilers of 1 d old were divided randomly into control(C)and experimental(T 1 and T 2)groups.T 1 and T 2 were treated with 600 and 1200 mg·L -1 Na + from NaCl(sodium chloride)in their drinking water respectively from 8 to 42 days of age.Experimental and control birds were selected for the dynamic evaluations of the signs and incidence of PHS,the ratio of right ventricle to total ventricle(RV/TV),packed cell volume(PCV),filtration index of erythrocyte(FI),blood volume(BV)and histopathological alteration of pulmonary arterioles in different groups.The results indicated that the high sodium in drinking water successfully induced PHS in broilers.The values of RV/TV and PCV were elevated(P<0 05).The percentage of thick walled peripheral lung vessels(%TWPV),the percentage of muscular artery(%MA),the ratio of vessel wall area to vessel total area(WA/TA)and the mean medial thickness in pulmonary arterioles(mMTPA)were increased(P<0 05),and the percentage of non muscular artery(%NMA)was decreased(P<0 05),and there were no difference for the FI and BV in those birds which were the period from 35 to 42 days of age.However,the FI and BV were elevated before 21 day of age(P<0 05),and there was no difference in the %TWPV,%MA,WA/TA,mMTPA and %NMA in those birds that were less than 28 days of age.Therefore,it might be concluded that the chronic pulmonary hypertension syndrome characterized by the muscularity of non muscular arteries and the proliferation and hypertrophy of pulmonary arteries,and the acute pulmonary hypertension syndrome characterized by the increased blood flow and enlarged resistance of the pulmonary arteries had been appeared in the different stages in the birds with pulmonary hypertension syndrome induced by excess Na + from NaCl in their drinking water.

Two hundred AA broilers were divided randomly into control(Group C) and low temperature treated groups(Group T) evenly.Broilers in group T before 14 days of age and group C were subjected to a normal feeding program.In group T,broilers were subjected to a step down temperature program of 1-2℃ per day,starting from 25℃(day 14) down to 12℃,and then maintained at this ambient temperature until 7 weeks of age.At same time 3,3,5-triiodothyronine(T 3) was added with concentration 1.5 mg/kg in the diet of group T in order to induce pulmonary hypertension.To the more extent,mean pulmonary arterial pressure(mPAP),PCV,RV/TV,plasma endothelin-1(ET-1) and nitric oxide(NO) were determined on day 21,28,35,42 and 49,and ascites incidence was recorded every week.It was found that mPAP,PCV,RV/TV,plasma ET-1 and ascites incidence of broilers in group T were significantly higher than those of broilers in group C;plasma ET-1 and mPAP had a significant correlation(r=0.726).No significant difference was found between plasma NO of two groups,but the trend of increment of plasma NO with the days delaying was observed.

20 0只 AA肉鸡随机等分为对照组 (C)和试验组 (T) ,C组和 14日龄前 T组鸡按常规饲养。 T组自 14日龄起舍温从 2 5℃起每天降 1~ 2℃逐渐降至 12℃ ,同时在日粮中按 1.5 m g/ kg的剂量添加三碘甲腺原氨酸 (T3 )以诱发肺动脉高压综合征 (PHS)。分别于 2 1、2 8、35、42、49日龄测定 2组肉鸡平均肺动脉压 (m PAP)、红细胞压积 (PCV)、右心全心比 (RV/ TV)、血浆内皮素 (ET- 1)及一氧化氮 (NO)水平 ,同时记录 PHS发病率。结果显示 ,试验组肉鸡 m PAP升高 ,PHS发病率增加 ;PCV、RV/ TV及血浆 ET- 1水平与对照组相比都显著升高 (P<0 .0 1) ;m PAP变化与血浆 ET- 1含量变化之间存在显著正相关 ,2组间血浆 NO水平无显著差异 (P>0 .0 5 ) ,但都出现随日龄增加血浆 NO水平升高的现象。
