         A procedure was developed for determining p-phthalic acid in synthetic-fibre industrial wastewater by using the first-derivative UV-spectrometry. Under the optimum experimental condition, the correlation coefficient of standard curve r=1.000 was obtained. The standard curve was linear in the concentration range 0.05-10.0 mg/l. Typical relative standard deviation was 0.2% (n=12) at 1mg/l level. No interference was observed from other organic substance.
