The steady-state modeling of an industrial prefractionator and a simulation system named DISSIMU-I, with vapor-liquid equilibria calculation using UNIFAC group contribution model, is presented in this paper. A new technique is developed to modify the convergence of Newton-Raphson method for the nonlinear multivariable model. The optimal operating conditions are obtained using DISSIMU-I with objective function of energy saving. The scheme of on-line optimal control is also discussed in this paper.
