A novel preparing period dynamic correction technique is developed for alternate-current plasma display panel (PDP). By comparing the weighted average of the grey level of the input image with the pre-settled gray level thresholds, the placement of the preparing period during one field time is dynamically adjusted such that the adjusted grey level can more closely reflect the input image grey level distribution. Meanwhile, using the technique which incorporating the preparing period dynamic correction with the different sub-field code schemes within two neighboring field, the number of the display grey scale can be increased enormously. Simulation results show that CLEAR technique enhances the capability of displaying the image with low grey level, and improves farthest the display quality of the whole image while eliminating the dynamic false contour.

The technology that enhances the dynamic low gray levels by the inverse-gamma relation subfields code was developed in color plasma display panel(PDP).Based on the grayscales average distribution method,the inverse-gamma modified subfields code was corrected through 3 improved methods,namely,input grayscales uneven distribution,distributing low gray levels alone,and modifying the exponent of inverse-gamma function.Thus,the number of displayed dynamic low gray level is increased effectively.The displaying effect of the whole image is guaranteed while enhancing the display ability of color PDP for low gray level images.The enhanced grayscale range required can be dynamically specified according to the distributing characteristic of the grayscales of the input image.The flexibility of the algorithm is increased.The simulation result shows that when input image is 0255 grayscales,the image cells with grayscale below 60 to the entire image cells ratio reaches 26.8% at most by using the new technology,and it is 6.2 times higher than the one obtained by using only the inverse-gamma correction.

In the video images and computer graphics,gamma correction is an important process to realize the faithful transmission of the original image information.While in the traditional CRT,this transformation is nonlinear.So a gamma correction is introduced to the image sending end to compensate for this nonlinearity.FED,because of its unique driving method and gray scale modulation,has a different gamma characteristic from CRT.So it's necessary to analyze its gamma characteristics.In this paper,a gamma for FED is worked out.Through an easy method of LUT,we realized the gamma correction for FED,and got a satisfactory quality of image reproduction.

在视频图像和计算机图形学中,γ校正是一个实现图像尽可能真实地反映原物体或原图像视觉信息的重要过程。在传统的阴极射线管(CRT)中图像信号的再现,由于电子枪的调制特性是非线性的,会出现亮度失真现象。为了克服低灰度级图像偏暗的缺点,大多数图像发送系统均采用预补偿办法,对其发出的图像信号作了预γ校正,从而实现了图像信号与图像亮度间的线性变换。FED作为一种新型场致发射显示器件,由于采用的驱动方式有别于CRT,因此并不具备等同于CRT的γ特性,如直接使用信号源图像信号,将不会得到高质量的图像显示。本文针对这一问题,对图像源视频信号作反γ校正,还原为原始图像,并通过实验得到适于FED显示屏的校正因子,经过校正,得到了较好的图像显示质量。
