Therefore his writings are called by some people as “cultural prose”. Prof. Yu is undoubtedly successful in tracing back the Chinese culture and making it known, arousing the meditation and common sympathy of the readers on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. However, with full and accurate historical facts and information, the writer of this paper is convinced that Prof. Yu has no full understanding of the Chinese culture and is academically indiscreet. In his books, some terrible and surprising mistakes can be found based on assumption rather than facts. For example, the neighbourhood of Mogao Grottoes was taken as the battlefield of fighting away the “Sanmiao” nationalities and Ehuang and Niuying as the two daughters of Emperor Shun. Prof. Yu named his writings on landscape as "humanized landscape" rather than natural landscape. The writer of this paper, however, would call them as "sholar landscape" which has nothing to do with the numanities or nature. The main points of this paper are as follows: Ehuang was not the daughter of Emperor Shun; the flagon did not come into existence in Tang Dynasty; Li Bai had never been in Mt.Tianzhu for shelter from the war;Su Shi had never been encircled in Huangzhou and thus no breakthrough happened;and Prof.Yu's humanized landscape is actually a scholar landscape.
