Results: The cutaneous lesions of all 56 patients of lupus erythematosus were responded to thalidomide. Among those patients, 41 cases (73.2%) were cured. The incidence of relapse after drug withdrawal was 21.9% (9 of 41).
Except for skin lesions of the nose in 17 patients no further side-effects were found.
DNA fragments of group A or B, following classification of VZV strains by the size of the variable region IV of VZV genome, were found at the 7th, 10th and 24th illness day in the three positive cases: one of these cases did not have skin lesions.
In six patients myositis was localized in the vicinity of skin lesions, arthritis or neuropathy caused byBorrelia burgdorferi.
The biopsy was decisive for the diagnosis of leprosy in 15 cases (28%), most without skin lesions.
We conclude that nerve biopsy is indicated for the diagnosis of leprosy in cases without clinically visible skin lesions and to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment.
Isolation of Borrelia burgdorferi from a skin lesion in a patient with granuloma annulare
Only patients who were treated with azithromycin or doxycycline and in whomBorrelia burgdorferi was isolated from the border of the skin lesion prior to institution of antibiotic treatment were selected for presentation in this report.
Skin lesion subsidence rate in the KYD group and the RA group was 39.6% and 20.8% respectively with significant difference (P>amp;lt;0.05).
And for the patients of progressive phase in the two groups, skin lesion subsidence rate was 57.8% and 21.1% respectively (P>amp;lt; 0.05).
Among the earliest pathologic events in systemic sclerosis (SSc) is the infiltration of mononuclear cells into the skin lesion.
