         To determine the free proline quantitatively, a mmodified Paquin's method was adopted. The proline levels in spartina anglica increase along with the raise of salinity. The threshhold value was found to be about 0.3 M NaCl, being somewhat lower than that of Spartina alterniflora and Spartina patens. The pattern of proline accumulation in S. anglica was different from that of Triglochin maritima or Aster tripolium. The time course of its accumulation Was also examined.
