Based upon the basic principles of schema theory, the two misinterpretations of The Scarlet Letter are analyzed. The Scarlet Letter does not fit into the schema of a common novel. In The Scarlet Letter, "the custom house", as the social background, in relation to the main body of the whole book, is extra-positioned. This is a structural deviation from the schema of a normal novel. The Scarlet Letter is not a novel about love or the psychology of sinners but one about the American society of that age.

The efficiency of the acquisition capacity of the English learners lies in the exploiting of their learning potential. The main factors limiting potential exploiting in acquisition of second language prove to be subjective EQ of the students, teacher-oriented strategies and the input of the unqualified language material. Therefore, PI competence construction chiefly proves to be literary discourse construction, whose mechanism is the refreshment and discourse deviation of the students schemata.
