This article makes a brief mention of and comment on Eugene Nida' s theory of functional equivalence. After a close and comparative reading of the English versions of some poems of the Tang and Song dynasties, the author airs his view on some principles to observe in the course of translating, terming it as the principle of faithful equivalence. The article explores such issues as the equivalence of understanding, style, rhyming and culture representation.

本文对奈达的功能对等理论进行简要述评,并通过对一些唐诗宋词的英译文本进行研读和比较,提出了对中国诗歌进行英译时应遵循的一条重要原则,即力求达到忠实对等,着重探讨对等的理解、对等的风格、对等的用韵和对等的文化迁移等问题。

The poetry originating in Tang dynasty and flourishing in Song dynasty holds a very important influence in Chinese traditional culture.Every poem has the name of the tunes that contains lots of cultural meanings and different sources of culture.This lecture discusses the general translation of these tunes to which the poetry were composed in consideration of their culture sources.

中国诗歌史上最具影响力和代表性的就属唐诗宋词.每首词都有词牌,词牌种类丰富,蕴含着隽永的文化气息,有着不同的文化来源。有些词牌不能根据字面直译,应在考释它的文化起源后再动笔。

The classical Chinese poetry is a form of literature with high content of cultural elements, so when it is translated into English, we should attach much importance to the successful transplanting of Chinese culture into Western culture, as well as the transformation of words and rhymes. The purpose of this paper is, through the description of a few phenomena concerned cultural losses, to cast a new view on the cultural dimension of the classical Chinese poetry.

由于中西方文化背景的极大差异,这就注定了英译古诗时必然会出现文化信息的遗漏,这也就需要译者在认真读懂原稿的基础上懂得变通,抓住文化内涵的核心,由诗词的表层结构深入到其深层结构,尽力展现其“意”的传神和生动。本文通过实例分析了在翻译唐诗宋词过程中文化信息的遗漏现象,同时还给出了一些处理的方法,力求在古诗词的英译过程中在更高的层面上实现文化的沟通。
