    Advertising is something that we are all exposed to and it is likely to affect most of us in different spheres of our lives.This paper focuses on cross cultural pragmatic failure in hybrid advertising language,namely the English advertisements translated from Chinese.With the help of Thomas' distinction between pragmalinguistic failure and sociopragmatic failure, based on Rosch's prototype theory, Lakoff’s theory of cognitive models,and the theory of language transfer,the present study is undertaken by exploring the reasons for cross cultural pragmatic failure,revealing that the sources of failure are traced back to the transference of pragmalinguistic and sociopragmatic rules of mother tongue to the target language.Far from a detailed study as it is,it is really an attempt in this sphere.It goes without saying that such a research is of practical significance to people engaged both in business and linguistic circles,and to our country's economic development as well.
