Generally, the traditional adjustable DC voltage is completed by using phase-controlled rectifier. This paper discusses a new type AC-DC converter which changes the AC into adjustable DC voltage by the SPWM technique. This converter is characterized by larger output capacity, less harmonic and higher control precision. Furthermore, its eminent characteristic is that the input power factor can be controlled in or less than 1. i.e. power factor angle can be changed arbitrary.

This paper presents switch-mode power supply power factor improvement method via harmonics elimination. Three methods are evaluated: a series connected resonant filter, a parallel connected resonant filter and an active boost converter. The experiment results show input power factor, distortion factor,crest factor, total harmonic distortion and harmonic components.
