The blending of normal butane into motor gasoline was investigated. The influences of the ambient temperature, the content of the light materials with boiling point lower than C_5 hydrocarbons and the hydrocarbon composition on evaporation loss were examined. The octane blending effectiveness of normal butane in various gasolines was studied. Data obtained by these studies are useful for the utilization of normal butane as a gasoline blending component.

Methanol has rather high clear and blending octane numbers and can be used as a high octane blending component in blends for motor gasoline. This paper discusses the blending effect of methanol with straight-run gasoline, alkylate, catalytic cracked gasoline and reformate on octane number, saturated vapor pressure, compatibility and stability of the blended stocks. The data presented will be useful for further development of low methanol containing motor gasoline.
