Faraday effect, polar and transverse magneto-optical Kerr effects and optical activity of quartz rotator, which are used in the four frequency differential laser gyro and magnetic mirror laser gyro, can be generalized in the form of dielectric tensor containing off-diagonal and symmetrical conjugate complex elements. This paper discussed the basic form of the wave-vector surface and normal mode of nonreciprocal gyrotropic dielectric tensor. The nonreciprocal effects mentioned were discussed and their applications in laser gyroscopes were presented. Some errors, which are produced from using nonreciprocal elements, are also analyzed theoretically.
