We proceed from Drucker's and Ilyushin's postulates and discuss convexity of loading surface, normality of flow rules, loading criteria and relevant constitutive relations respectively in the stress and the strain space. In the paper we take plastic strains and a plastic work as interior variables in the strain space, but plastic stresses and a plastic work in the stress space. We proceed from Drucker's and Ilyushin's postulates and discuss convexity of loading surface, normality of flow rules, loading criteria and relevant constitutive relations respectively in the stress and the strain space. Main results of these formulations are compared item by item in Table 2.Drucker's postulate is formulated in stress space but close stress cycles cannot be achieved for the case of strain softening. Therefore loading criterion l1 and constitutive relation (36) expressed in stress space are applicable only to stable material. While Ilyushin's postulate is formulated in strain space and close strain cycles can be achieved in any case, then loading criterion l2 and constitutive relations (41) expressed in strain space are applicable to both hardening and softening materials. Consequently Ilyushin's postulate and the relevant strain space formulation of constitutive behaviours have more universal applicability.

In order to investigate the anisotropic hardening effect in the materials subjected to large plastic deformation, a new testing method, named "plane strain compression test in different lorientations" , is presented in this paper. The loading function of mixed model for brass is determinated by this method. It is shown that this method is available with engineering accuracy and can be used to solve plastic forming problems more accurately.
