    The study on characteristics of thermomechanial pulping effluents indicates that the contents of COD and total carbohydrates in this effluents are more than 5000mg/1 and 3000mg/1 respectively and that hexose are dominant constituents and that free sugars are present in significant amounts. The contents of total solid and total volatile solid are similar to those in the composition of a machine effluent from a strawboard mill, while the solid content in TMP white water is rather low. The contents of total solid and total volatile solid are similar to those in the composition of a machine effluent from a strawboard mill, while the solid content in TMP white water is rather low. A high percentage reduction in COD (about 80 percent) was obtained in an anaerobic flow system with a partial recycle flow under the conditions of an organic loading of 6-7kg/m3d in terms of COD, a retention time of 24 hours, and a temperature of 34-36°C. The content of CH4 in the biogas is more than 80%.

    This paper introduces the role of methanobacterium ruminantium pure culture in the ferment of methane. When M. ruminantium is added in the ferment of methane, the process of fermentation can be accelerated, and thus the content and the yield of methane can be increased.When M. ruminantium is added to the ordinary cultural materials, their total gas output is 1.9 times more than that of before, and the the speed of the gas production is thirteen faster times than that of before.

The colonies of this bacterium on cellulose agar roll tube were in circular type, thin in center, thick at edge, non-transparent, irregular with oqapue edge, and produce brown pigment in the cellulose roll tube after 7 day breeding. The cells are gram-stain negative, non-motile. Single cells are slightly curved, in short chain occisionally. Spores are in terminal spherical with swelling. The optimum growth temperature is 35℃. The pH is 6.9 for the optimum growth. Fermentation products from cellulose, cellobiose, glucose are hydrogen, carbon dioxides, acetic acid, trace amounts of propionic acid alcohol.The DNA base composition is 32.6-33.1 mol % guanine plus cytosine.
