    The surface acidity of a series of MoO3/γ-Al2O3 and MoO3/SiO2 was determined by the adsorption isotherms of n-butylamine on the samples in solution and by means of Hammett indicators. The results obtained by these two methods are consistent. As the MoO3 content of the sample raises, the surface acidity increases and reaches its maximum, then no longer changes. The MoO3 content of the sample at the turning point of acidity is very close to the monolayer dispersion threshold value obtained by XPS and X-ray quantitative...

The MoO3 content of the sample at the turning point of acidity is very close to the monolayer dispersion threshold value obtained by XPS and X-ray quantitative phase analyses, this implies that the surface acidity depends on the surface concentration of MoO3.The mole ratio between the acid sites and MoO3 dispersed on the surface is high and ranges from 0.5 to 1. This is a new conclusive evidence showing that MoO3 is dispersed as a monolayer on the surface of the carriers.In addition, the surface acidity of pure MoO3 was also measured. The result is about one acid site for each surface MoO3 molecule. It is obvious that the surface acidity of the samples is caused by the dispersion of acidic oxide MoO3 on the surfaces of the carriers and consequently the remarkable increase of its surface area.

It is show that,being used as a kind of rectifier for salt bath,Rare-earth is characterized by itsenduring effects,quick-acting,high ability of forming slag and causing the work pieces and electrode free from being corroded by acid oxide with its compositive advantages,thus rare-earth elements can be used as a kind of rectifier for salt baths.
