Minimum average correlation energy filters using circular harmonic expansion (CH-MACE filters) for pattern recognition are presented in this paper. The fUters possess the rotational invariant property and yield much better discrimination and sharper correlation peaks compared with the traditional circular harmonic filters. Therefore, they are particularly appropriate for discriminating between almost similar objects. Computer simulations showed the advantages of the fitters.
