It is not possible to measure the radiation dose to tissues of the body, dose coefficients must be based on biokinetic and dosimetric models. This paper describes the current status of the document prepared by committee 2 of ICRP, which is to assess the reliability of the dose coefficients for members of the public. Specifically the goal is to assess (1)the uncertainty in the effective dose coefficient as central estimators of the population and (2)the variability of effective dose coefficients among members of the population. The methodology introduced by committee 2 consists in separating the dose calculation into four models (GI, respiratory, systematic biokinetic, dosimetric models). The uncertainties obtained in each model will then be combined to estimate the total uncertainty. (
