According to the structure ,operating characteristics and course of development of the flap gates, the flap gates are divided into three types :that is, single-pivot gates, multi-pivot gates,and the gates of complex motion type. In this paper, these gates are introduced systematically . Some demand special attentions in design are summarized which may be taken as references to engineering units.

A new type of the yieldable hinged support adaptable to inhomogeneous rock roadways under the influence of mining activities is suggested in this paper.Design principle,structural features,and calculation method for the new support are discussed. The obtained results indicate that the new type of support has such advantages as higher load-carrying capacity,better yieldable performance,higher rate of reuse,and more convenience to set up and retrieve.It can be adjustable to the carried load to fit for the inhomogeneous and varied ground pressure.The new type of support,which has both advantages of hinged supports and yieldable supports,is firstly inhovated at home and abroad.
