         An effective collector-COA (Chlorinated Oleic Acid )has been developed, which is characterized by hard-water proofing and low temperature resistance. Its behaviour of flotation of hematite is studied. In addition, the authors discuss the influence of Ca~(2+) and Mg~(2+) ions on flotation separation of artificial hematite-quartz mixture(1:1)and the mechanism of action of COA on hematite surfaces.
